What is the most important type of exercise to prioritize?

What is the most important type of exercise to prioritize?

This is one of the most common questions I get as a trainer:
“What’s the best kind of workout?”
Is it running? Strength training? Yoga? Pilates? Do I need to go to the gym? How many days a week should I work out? What time of day is best?

There are so many options out there, and with that comes a whole lot of confusion. But here’s the honest answer I always give:

The best kind of workout is the one that works for you.

The kind you enjoy.
The kind you can stick with.
The kind that fits into your life — not the other way around.

Let’s Set You Up for Success

The best workout is the one you enjoy and can stick with. If you hate running, don’t force yourself to do it. But if running makes you feel alive, lace up and hit the pavement!

It’s also important to consider your lifestyle. For example, if you have young kids and can’t spend hours running outside, investing in a treadmill or a quality jogging stroller might be just what you need to stay active. The key is finding something that fits seamlessly into your routine.

Consistency is crucial, but it can be tricky to build a habit if you keep telling yourself you’ll work out “later” — and later never comes. If that sounds familiar, consider shifting your workout to first thing in the morning when your day is less likely to get in the way. On the other hand, if mornings just aren’t your thing, try signing up for a class or scheduling a workout with a friend to keep yourself accountable.

Finding the right workout for you means balancing enjoyment, practicality, and consistency. When you get that balance right, staying active becomes much more manageable — and enjoyable!

The Real Key? Consistency

At the end of the day, the most effective workout is the one you’ll do — not just once or twice, but over and over again.
Movement doesn’t have to be complicated or rigid. It should feel good, fit your lifestyle, and most importantly, be something you look forward to (at least most days!).

I’m not here to tell you that you have to do any one type of workout.
What I am here for is helping you figure out what fits your life.
Because when fitness becomes part of your routine — not a chore on your to-do list — that’s when it truly sticks.

So if you're feeling unsure about where to start or how to build a routine that actually works, I'm here to help. I work with clients every day to create long-term, sustainable fitness plans that feel realistic and supportive — not overwhelming.

Let’s find what works for you, together.
